Turnaround Times depend on how busy the Louisiana state records office is at the time when you make your application. We do our best to expedite every application, but results can take up to 6 to 8 weeks to be completed. Louisiana birth certificates can be expedited, but only if we are provided with travel documents showing that you will be traveling within the next few weeks. Costs can and do vary! The price starts at $40.00 for each Louisiana Birth Certificate, which includes one certified copy of the Birth Certificate. The state can and does change its prices without any warning. We try to keep these web pages up to date, but the actual and most current price will be shown on the order page when you order online. To check the most current price, click HERE. There is a minimum $15.00 charge for each additional certified copy ordered at the same time. If you would like to rush your request then there will be an additional charge of $25.00. 
       
Record Availability - records are available from 1914 to present. Records prior to 1914 may be available, however they have to be recovered from archive and the turnaround time may be significantly longer.
    
A signed release is not required to obtain a copy of the Birth Certificate, however, a picture ID is required.  Louisiana states that Birth Certificates can ONLY be made available to the following individuals:

Person Named on the Certificate

Mother/Father (or Legal Guardian)

Legal Representative of an Authorized Person

Individuals with a legitimate and legal reason to
       search for genealogical purposes

Birth Certificates MAY also be released to the following, IF we are provided with the documentation proving one of the relationships specified below:

Husband/Wife of Person Named on Certificate

Son/Daughter of Person Named on Certificate

Sister/Brother of Person Named on Certificate

If you fall into one of the three relationship categories listed above, then please CALL US at 1.800.315.7678 before making your order so that we can make sure that we meet the state documentation requirements. Otherwise your order may be delayed while we contact you for the additional information.

Delivery Time: Turnaround time is usually 21-27 business days, but this can vary depending on the county, the workload at the records office, and the status of the birth certificate. Results are sent to you either by regular US Postal Service mail. We are able to fulfill rush orders using an express carrier such as FedEx, but rush orders can ONLY be delivered to a street address, not to a PO Box or military address. We cannot guarantee turnaround time as we are dependent on the state getting back to us in a timely fashion, and this can vary widely with the load that the records office is experiencing. County offices have limited personnel and are often swamped with paper work.

The state of Louisiana has a number of specific requirements.  You MUST provide the following or we will be unable to process your request:

• Full name of person at birth
• Date of birth
• County (or city) of birth
• Full maiden name of mother
• Full name of father
• Your relationship to the person whose certificate you are requesting
• A picture ID (your own)
• Your reason for searching for this Document (please select one reason from the dropdown box provided)
• Any additional information that you think is pertinent
